Old Fadal VMC 40 Gets New Life: Centroid Retrofit Delivers EtherCat Servo Power and Precision
Dale chose the Centroid Hickory EtherCat CNC controller DIY kit to bring back to life a Fadal VMC 40 at his work.
Dale says, "I really like the Hickory CNC controller, and the Lead-shine servos and their auto tune functionality were easy to setup. we worked on the machine for a few hours today to wire in the spindle encoder, fine tune the spindle drive and setup rigid tapping. We tested in Delrin first and the threads looked and felt good, tapped a few holes in aluminum and everything looked good there as well."

Say you to drill holes in big part, that will take 3 set ups.
Drill all the holes you can reach, on G54, then move the part, and pick up the last hole, assign it G55 with the true position of the hole, say x=33(you have 34" of travel), drill the last hole at x=66, move the part, pick up the hole and set G56 at x=99 and drill.
